Our Management and History
Dr. S. M. (Sam) Avasthi, P.E.
Dr. Sam Avasthi — an engineering alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM), Imperial College London, and Texas A&M University (Ph.D., Petroleum Engineering), and a former Research Associate in Chemical Engineering at Rice University — has been a practicing petroleum engineering consultant since 1970. After 20 years with major global integrated energy producing and consulting companies, he founded Avasthi & Associates, Inc. in 1990 to provide state-of-the-art energy consulting and customized training services to the worldwide energy industry at the most reasonable cost. He now serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Avasthi & Associates, Inc. Dr. Avasthi holds SPE's Legion of Honor and is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas (License No. 42728, since 1978); World Oil magazine has recognized him as “a Consultant's Consultant” — read his full World Oil interview for his perspective on the oil & gas industry and the petroleum consulting business.
Dr. J. M. (Jay) Avasthi
Dr. Jay Avasthi — a geosciences and engineering alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (ISM), the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison (Ph.D., Mining Engineering / Rock Mechanics) — spent 24 years with Chevron Corporation before joining Avasthi & Associates, Inc. in 2003 as Director of Unconventional Resources Development (URD) and Geoservices (Geomechanics, Geosciences, and CO2 Geosequestration). He now serves as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Avasthi & Associates, Inc. Dr. Avasthi is a Senior Member of SPE and holds a U.S. patent in hydraulic fracturing.
