Dr. S. M. (Sam) Avasthi, P.E.

Chairman & CEO, and

Dr. Sam Avasthi is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A), a worldwide energy consulting company that he founded in 1990. A&A, now a multi-disciplinary consulting team of more than 100 seasoned consultants, provides full-service integrated consulting services for on land and offshore (shallow water and deepwater), conventional and unconventional/ shale, oil, gas, gas-condensate/volatile oil, and heavy (and extra heavy) oil field evaluation, development and optimization (to maximize oil & gas recovery and project profitability), and related training services, to the oil & gas industry around the world.

Dr. Sam Avasthi has over 45 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience in petroleum engineering, reservoir engineering and simulation/modeling, EOR/IOR project design, evaluation and optimization; revitalizing mature oil fields, and related projects. He has been providing consulting and training services to the worldwide oil & gas industry since 1970, and has been involved in conducting reservoir engineering and simulation studies of some of the major EOR/IOR projects.

Dr. Sam Avasthi has lectured extensively, around the world, on numerous topics in his areas of technical expertise. He is a co-instructor of several customized training workshops conducted by A&A at the request of its clients, as well as a co-instructor of several popular public training courses taught under the auspicious of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), in conjunction with SPE conferences, workshops and seminars, around the world.

Dr. Sam Avasthi is an engineering alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Imperial College London, and Texas A&M University (where he earned a Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering). He was a Research Fellow in Chemical Engineering at Rice University, and worked for 20 years in senior-level petroleum engineering and consulting positions with integrated global energy and consulting companies before founding Avasthi & Associates, Inc. in 1990. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas, and a Legion of Honor member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and a Technical Editor of three SPE Journals ('SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering Journal', 'SPE Production & Operations Journal', and the 'SPE Oil and Gas Facilities Journal').

Dr. J. M. (Jay) Avasthi

Dr. Jay Avasthi is President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Director of Geoservices (Geomechanics, Geosciences, and CO2 Geosequestration) and Unconventional/ Shale Resources Evaluation, Development and Optimization, at Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A), a worldwide energy consulting company founded in 1990. A&A, now a multi-disciplinary consulting team of more than 100 seasoned consultants, provides full-service, integrated consulting services for on land and offshore (shallow water and deepwater), conventional and unconventional/shale, oil, gas, gas-condensate/volatile oil, and heavy (and extra heavy) oil field evaluation, development and optimization (to maximize oil & gas recovery and project profitability), and related training services, to the oil & gas industry around the world.

 

Dr. Jay Avasthi has extensive worldwide oil & gas industry experience in geomechanics technologies and practices, including 24 years with Chevron Corporation working on drilling, completion, production and reservoir engineering, and EOR/IOR, projects. His expertise includes acquisition, calibration and use of the in situ stress data for waterflood and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project improvement, oil & gas well construction and production, fracturing stimulation, waste disposal through injection, wellbore stability, wellbore mechanics, and sand production prediction. 

 

Dr. Jay Avasthi has been actively involved in technological advancements in the areas of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. He is the inventor/author of a U.S. patent (Number 4,977,961) on ‘Method to Create Parallel Vertical Fractures in Inclined Wellbores’, that was granted in 1990 to Chevron Research Corporation, while he was employed with Chevron. He has authored/co-authored numerous technical papers on hydraulic fracturing, and related topics, and those papers are published in peer-reviewed technical journals.

 

Dr. Jay Avasthi was involved in conducting Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) pilot-tests in Rawlins, Wyoming, U.S.A., during the seventies and eighties, while he was employed with Gulf Oil Corporation (which was later acquired by Chevron Corporation). He authored/co-authored several technical papers on geomechanics aspects of those pilot-tests, and those papers are published in peer-reviewed technical journals and in UCG Symposium Proceedings.

 

Dr. Jay Avasthi is a geosciences and engineering alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), the University of Minnesota, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (where he earned a Ph.D. degree in Mining Engineering, with specialization in Rock Mechanics). He worked in senior-level geomechanics, fracturing stimulation, EOR/IOR, engineering, research and supervisory positions for 24 years with Chevron Corporation, before joining Avasthi & Associates, Inc. in 2003.

 

Dr. Jay Avasthi is a long-standing member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and a technical editor of the 'SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering Journal'. He has taught numerous short courses, and conducted hands-on training workshops, in his areas of technical expertise, around the world. He is a co-instructor of the popular SPE courses on 'Practical Aspects of CO2 Flooding EOR', 'Geological Sequestration of CO2', and 'Optimizing Gas Fields using Integrated Asset Modeling (IAM), and Introduction to Optimizing Shale Gas and Tight Oil Fields'. He was a board member and Program Chairman for the SPE Los Angeles Basin Section. 

 

Dr. Paul L. Bondor

Principal EOR/IOR Engineering and Economics Advisor, and Offshore Field Development Planning (FDP) Consultant

Dr. Bondor, an expert in EOR/IOR technologies and practices, and revitalizing mature oilfields, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) since 2006 as Principal EOR/IOR Engineering and Economics Advisor, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise. He is a co-instructor, with Dr. Sam Avasthi, of five-day training workshops on EOR/IOR technologies and strategies, conducted by A&A at the request of its clients, for the benefit of their professionals and managers, around the world. 

Dr. Bondor has 40-plus years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience, including 35 years with the Royal Dutch/ Shell Group in reservoir engineering and simulation research, practice and supervision, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) by various processes, EOR/IOR project design, evaluation and optimization; and as a reservoir engineering instructor for the Shell Oil E&P training organization. While at Shell, he gained extensive experience working on EOR/IOR projects, designing and conducting EOR pilot tests, supervising EOR research, and as Head of EOR Research and Development for the Royal Dutch/Shell group. Since his retirement from Shell in 2003, he has continued to consult on EOR/IOR technologies and practices. 

Dr. Bondor was a SPE Distinguished Lecturer on EOR, during 2010 – 2011, and in this role he lectured on EOR at the SPE chapters around the world. Dr. Bondor co-authored a technical paper, with Dr. Sam Avasthi, on ‘Planning EOR Projects’, which was presented at the SPE International Petroleum Conference in Mexico, held in Puebla, Mexico, during November 2004; and an article based on that paper was published under Management Series in March 2005 issue of the Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT).  Another technical paper co-authored by him, with Dr. Sam Avasthi, on ‘Planning EOR Projects in Offshore Oil Fields’ was presented at the Latin American and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference (LACPEC) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during June 2005. 

Dr. Bondor is an engineering alumnus of Case Western Reserve University, where he earned a B.S. degree in Engineering Science, a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Ph.D. degree in Engineering; and thereafter he worked in senior-level EOR engineering and research positions at the Royal Dutch/ Shell Group for 35 years. He is a long-standing member of SPE, a Technical Editor of the SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering Journal, and a co-instructor of the SPE courses on 'Practical Aspects of Thermal EOR' and 'Practical Reservoir Survillance and Management Techniques for EOR/IOR Projects'.

Dr. Eric Pasternack

Principal Geological and Petrophysical, and Shale Resources Evaluation, Consultant

Dr. Eric Pasternack, a seasoned geologist and petrophysics expert, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) since 2003, as Principal Geological and Petrophysical, and Shale Resources Evaluation Consultant, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise.

 

Dr. Pasternack has over 37 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience, including 20 years with ARCO in reservoir log analysis, and rock properties and well logging research and supervision. Since leaving ARCO in 1998, he has continued to consult in reservoir petrophysical interpretation, core calibrated log interpretation, exploration well site QC and post-drill petrophysical interpretation, and on shale resources evaluation projects. He has taught several short courses, and conducted training workshops, around the world, in his areas of technical expertise.

 

Dr. Pasternack is an alumnus of Brandeis University (where he earned a B.S. degree in Physics) and the University of Pennsylvania (where he earned a Ph.D. degree in Geology). He is a long-standing member of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA), American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He served as President of SPWLA during 1989-90. He has authored/co-authored numerous publications and patents. He is proficient in Spanish, Russian and French. 

 

 

 

Dr. Rajan Chokshi

Principal Production Optimization, and Artificial Lift Design, Consultant

Dr. Rajan Chokshi, an expert in production optimization and artificial lift design, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. Dr. Chokshi is an engineering alumnus of Gujarat University, Indian Institute of Technology, and the University of Tulsa (where he earned a Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering). He was a SPE Distinguished Lecturer on Artificial Lift, for 2015-2016, and has served on the SPE global committees for training and production awards. He is a long-standing member of SPE, and author/co-author of several technical papers published in the professional journals.

 

Dr. Scott MacKay

Principal EOR/IOR Geophysical/ Seismic Interpretation Consultant

Dr. Scott MacKay has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. as a Principal EOR/IOR Geophysical/ Seismic Interpretation Consultant since 2007, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise. Dr. MacKay is a Petroleum Geoscientist with over 30 years of international experience. He started his oil industry career with Tenneco Oil in 1979, as an Exploration Geophysicist in the Denver Division, developing the geological and geophysical framework for structural and stratigraphic plays in the Williston Basin and other Rocky Mountain plays. He later joined Tenneco’s Special Projects Group in Houston, in 1986, as an Exploration Advisor integrating the efforts of multidisciplinary exploration and exploitation teams in areas including the Bahamas Carbonate Platform, North Slope, Offshore Gabon, North Sea, Colombia, and the Gulf of Mexico. In 1988 Dr. MacKay joined Western Geophysical (now Schlumberger Geosolutions) as a Research Geophysicist developing new methods for imaging complex structures using prestack depth migration. In 1992 he was appointed Manager of R&D for WesternGeco (now Schlumberger Geosolutions) where he also served as World-wide Coordinator for Depth Imaging, Time-lapse Reservoir Characterization, and Multicomponent Imaging. Dr. MacKay has five U.S. patents and numerous publications on applying innovative and practical solutions to exploration and exploitation challenges.

Dr. MacKay became an independent consultant in 2003 working international interpretation projects and advising on the application of new technologies and their impact on risk reduction. He also specializes in the application of depth imaging to projects spanning complex structural to subtle resource plays to quantify reservoir quality using advanced attributes such as AVOAz inversion.

Dr. MacKay is an alumnus of Bridgewater University in Massachusetts (where he earned B.S. degrees in both Chemistry and Geology). He obtained his M.S. degree in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines, and his Ph.D. degree in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Houston. He teaches several state-of-the-art industry training courses on seismic interpretation and advanced attribute formation, including, but not limited to, ‘Practical Depth Conversion with Petrel’, ‘Practical Depth Conversion and Depth Imaging for the Interpreter’, and ‘The Interpreter’s Guide to Depth Imaging’.

Dr. G. (Sub) Subramanian

Principal Reservoir Simulation Software Development and Applications/ Dynamic Modeling Consultant

Dr. Sub Subramanian, an expert in reservoir simulation software development and applications, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A), since 2015, as a Principal Reservoir Simulation Software Development and Applications/ Dynamic Modeling Consultant.

 

Dr. Subramanian has over 40 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience, including 34 years with ExxonMobil Corporation, in simulation software development and applications/ dynamic modeling, reservoir engineering research and practice, EOR/IOR project design, evaluation and optimization, and training.

 

Dr. Subramanian’s extensive experience working on EOR/IOR projects includes evaluation of pilot-tests and field-wide projects by conducting state-of-the-art simulation studies, including history matching, forecasting, and performance optimization.

 

Dr. Subramanian is an engineering alumnus of the University of Minnesota (where he earned a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering). He is a long-standing member of SPE, and has authored/co-authored several technical papers in his areas of technical expertise. 

Dr. Janus Grabowski

Principal EOR/IOR Reservoir Simulation/ Dynamic Modeling and Thermal EOR Consultant

Dr. Grabowski, an expert in numerical simulation of reservoir performance, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) since 2010 as a Principal EOR/IOR Reservoir Simulation and Thermal EOR Consultant, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise. He has more than 30 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience in conventional oil & gas, heavy oil and tar sand, CO2and thermal EOR, and waterflood improvement projects. He has conducted numerous reservoir simulation studies and lectured extensively on reservoir simulation, and other topics in his areas of technical expertise, around the world.

Dr. Grabowski’s extensive experience working on thermal EOR projects includes, but is not limited to, numerical modeling and extraction of temperature dependent reservoir parameters from laboratory tests; field pilot numerical evaluation (Resdeln: Pelican Lake), and numerical simulation studies including history matching, forecasting and performance optimization (Surmont: simulation study of steam flooding via HW, Lindberg SAGD: Malong simulation study of CSS and steam flood options). He is a co-author of STARS (CMG’s thermal and advanced processes numerical simulator).

Dr. Grabowski is an alumnus of Jagellonian University in Cracow, Poland, wherefrom he earned a M.Sc. degree in Physics, and a Ph.D. degree in Theoretical Physics. Thereafter he conducted research at the Institute of Physics in Cracow, and at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.  He then worked in senior level positions at the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Calgary, Computer Modeling Group (CMG) in Calgary, Gulf Canada, Canterra Energy in Calgary, and at Alberta Research Council (presently Alberta Innovates-Technology Futures), performing research and conducting studies in numerical reservoir simulation. He has taught courses in reservoir simulation in Canada, U.S.A., Venezuela, China, Trinidad, Libya, Argentina, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Dr. Mukul Bhatia, P.G.

Principal Offshore Field Development Planning (FDP), Geological, and Shale Resources Evaluation, Development and Optimization Consultant

Dr. Mukul Bhatia, an expert in offshore field developing planning (FDP), and shale resources evaluation, development and optimization, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) as a Principal Offshore Field Development Planning (FDP), Geological, and Shale Resources Evaluation, Development and Optimization Consultant since 2016, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise.

 

Dr. Bhatia has over 35 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience, having worked with several oil & gas producing companies (including BHP Billiton, and Elf Aquitaine) on various deepwater offshore, and shale resources evaluation, development and optimizations, projects in U.S.A., Australia and Asia. In his 27-year career with BHP Billiton, he worked in various professional and managerial positions (senior petroleum geologist, production coordinator, geosciences team leader, senior appraisal geologist, subsurface team leader, subsurface manager, geosciences manager, production geosciences manager, and field studies manager). His extensive leadership experience working on reservoir geological and economic aspects of offshore (deepwater) field development planning (FDP) projects includes working on several major projects in the Gulf of Mexico.

 

Dr. Bhatia’s expertise includes unconventional/ shale resources evaluation, development, and optimization, integrated field studies, reserves estimating and reporting, reservoir modeling, gas supply analysis, LNG marketing, geosciences well planning, well operation/ geo-steering, and offshore (deepwater) field development planning (FDP). He has strong record in strategic analysis, integrating cross-functional and high-performance teams, and delivering promised values.

 

Dr. Bhatia is an alumnus of Punjab University (where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geology), and the Australian National University (where he earned a Ph.D. degree in Geology). He is a licensed Professional Geoscientist (P.G.) in Texas, a long-standing member of American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He is an author/co-author of several technical papers published in the professional journals.

 

Dr. Luiz C. Amado

Principal Reservoir Engineering and Simulation/ Dynamic Modeling, Integrated Asset Modeling (IAM), and Deepwater Oil & Gas Field Evaluation, Development and Optimization Consultant

Dr. Amado, a seasoned reservoir engineer, is a Principal Reservoir Engineering and Simulation, Integrated Asset Modeling (IAM), and Deepwater Oil & Gas Field Evaluation Consultant at Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A), and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise.

 

Dr. Amado has over 20 years of oil & gas industry experience working with Shell, Petrobras, Ecopetrol, Nexen Petroleum, Eni, and Schlumberger. He started his career as a Senior Reservoir Engineer with Schlumberger, where he was involved in conducting reservoir engineering and simulation studies of onshore gas and gas-condensate fields in Mexico. During his 10-year career with Shell, as a Senior Reservoir Engineer, he worked on several projects in UK, Brazil and USA. In UK, he was involved in reservoir engineering and simulation studies, and operations, in the Southern North Sea gas and gas-condensate fields. He was responsible for development of the Leman field integrated system model to carry out reservoir engineering tasks in support of operations, field monitoring and optimization. As part of the Leman field IAM study, he was involved in the compressor upgrade project and debottlenecking study for the integrated surface network. He was also responsible for reservoir engineering studies of Bijupira and Salema fields in Brazil. As a Senior Reservoir Engineer for Shell in Houston, he worked on deepwater reservoir engineering projects in GOM (Llano field), and at exploration areas in Brazil (Santos, Campos and Espirito Santo basins), as well as on projects in other areas in South America and South Caribbean. As a Senior Reservoir Engineer for Petrobras America, Dr. Amado worked on reservoir engineering projects to evaluate prospect opportunities in Pliocene, Miocene and Lower Tertiary plays of GOM, and reservoir engineering studies for Hadrian project and Cottonwood gas-condensate field, both in the deepwater GOM. He also worked as a Lead Reservoir Engineer for Ecopetrol America, providing reservoir-engineering support to evaluate opportunities in Pliocene, Miocene and Lower Tertiary plays of GOM and K2 field in GOM. He also worked as an Appraisal Reservoir Engineer for Nexen Petroleum, providing reservoir-engineering support to evaluate opportunities in GOM. He also worked as a Senior Reservoir Engineer for Eni, providing reservoir-engineering support to evaluate opportunities in GOM.

 

Dr. Amado holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Federal Fluminense University, Brazil; a Master’s degree focused on Petroleum Engineering from UNICAMP - Campinas State University, Brazil, and a Doctorate degree in Reservoir Engineering and Simulation from MontanUniversitaet Leoben, Austria. He is a long-standing member of SPE, and has served on several SPE technical committees and conference boards. He is a co-instructor of two popular SPE training courses: ‘Optimizing Gas Fields using Integrated Asset Modeling (IAM), and Introduction to Optimizing Shale Gas and Tight Oil Fields’, and ‘Practical Techniques for Screening Deepwater Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration Prospects’.  He is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Dr. Dan Cooper

Principal Geological, Petrophysical, Geomodeling/ Static Modeling, and Shale Resources Evaluation Consultant

Dr. Dan Cooper, a seasoned geological engineer and geomodeler, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) since 2013, as a Principal Geological, Petrophysical, Geomodeling/ Static Modeling, and Shale Resources Evaluation Consultant, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise.

 

Dr. Cooper has over 32 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience in geological assessment of oil & gas reservoirs, reservoir characterization and geological/ static modeling, reservoir simulation/ dynamic modeling, and reservoir management and supervision. After working for the oil & gas industry in senior-level research and managerial positions for over 13 years, he has continued to consult on oil & gas reservoir assessment and development projects, and has taught several short courses, and conducted training workshops, around the world, in his areas of technical expertise.

 

Dr. Cooper is an alumnus of the University of Mississippi (where he earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, and a Ph.D. degree in Geological Engineering), and Rice University (where he earned a M.S. degree in Engineering Science).

 

Dr. Cooper, a long-standing member of American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), has authored/ co-authored numerous technical reports and studies, and presented technical papers at various international, national and regional geological conferences. Dr. Fred H. Behnken, P.G.

Principal EOR/IOR Reservoir Geological Consultant

Dr. Fred Behnken, a seasoned geologist, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) since 2014, as a Principal EOR/IOR Reservoir Geological Consultant, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise.

 

Dr. Behnken has over 33 years of oil & gas industry experience in exploration and production geology, reservoir characterization, EOR/IOR, business development and new ventures, having worked with Union Oil Company, Mesa Petroleum, ARCO Oil & Gas Company, Kinder Morgan CO2 Company, Concho Resources, and as a geological consultant.

 

Dr. Behnken’s extensive experience working on CO2 EOR projects in the Permian Basin has included working on the very successful CO2 flood in Yates Field. He proposed, guided and evaluated new lateral drilling to optimize programs in the Permian Basin Seven Rivers and Queen tight oil reservoirs, and in CO2 gravity flood in the San Andres formations within Yates Field Unit. He optimized lateral drilling in the Permian Basin Seven Rivers Formation, planned logging operations, and participated in geological evaluations of prospective business development, and in new ventures.

 

Dr. Behnken has advised and delivered cost-effective stratigraphic and reservoir analysis to geological and engineering teams working on EOR/IOR projects to enhance operational efficiencies and production potential. He is experienced in conducting reservoir studies to address operational geological and engineering problems in waterflood IOR and CO2 flood EOR projects.

Dr. Rupam Bora

Principal Reservoir Engineering and Simulation/ Dynamic Modeling Consultant

Dr. Rupam Bora, an expert reservoir engineer with extensive worldwide oil & gas industry experience in conducting integrated reservoir studies, and working on green field appraisal and development, brown field redevelopment, and EOR/IOR reservoir engineering and simulation/ dynamic modeling, and reservoir evaluation studies, and on CO2 and Acid Gas sequestration projects, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) as a Principal Reservoir Engineering and Simulation/ Dynamic Modeling Consultant since 2017, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise.

 

Dr. Bora has over 19 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience, having worked with several oil & gas producing companies (Occidental Petroleum, Cenovus Energy, and Petro-Canada/Suncor Energy), and consulting companies. His extensive industry experience includes working on major projects in the areas of CO2 EOR, waterflood optimization, EOR/IOR reservoir engineering and simulation/ dynamic modeling, and on naturally fractured reservoirs, both carbonates and sandstones. Dr. Vinh Phan

Dr. Vinh Phan, an accomplished reservoir engineer with extensive oil & gas industry experience in conducting reservoir engineering and simulation/modeling, field development planning/modeling (FDP/FDM), and integrated asset modeling (IAM), and related, studies, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. Dr. Phan has over 15 years of oil & gas industry experience, having worked in senior level engineering positions, with BP and Lukoil, on several challenging projects on reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation and characterization, top-down reservoir modeling, uncertainty analysis, optimization, artificial intelligence, neural/predictive network modeling, geostatistical modeling, and software development. Mr. John Harris

Principal Geological and Geomodeling/ Static Modeling Consultant

Mr. John Harris, a seasoned geologist and geomodeler, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A), since 2014, as a Principal Geological and Geomodeling/ Static Modeling Consultant, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise, that includes, but is not limited to, geological/ static model development to support economic evaluation, reserves, well planning and reservoir simulation.

Mr. Daniel Mujica

Principal Geophysical and Seismic Interpretation Consultant

Mr. Daniel Mujica, a seasoned geophysicist and seismic interpretation expert, is a Principal Geophysical and Seismic Interpretation Consultant at Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A), and provides consulting and training services in his areas of his technical expertise: quantitative seismic interpretation, seismic pore pressure prediction, pore pressure modeling, and wellbore stability analysis.

 

Mr. Mujica’s over 27 years of worldwide geophysical and seismic interpretation experience includes working with Chevron, Saudi Aramco, Tricon Geophysics, CGG, Paradigm Geophysical, and PDVSA. His expertise includes geophysical exploration risk Analysis, geological velocity model building, seismic imaging, AVO, AVA, seismic inversion, quantitative interpretation, pore-pressure/ fracture gradient (FG), and wellbore stability (WBS) geomechanics. He is highly experienced in the use of popular seismic interpretation software packages, including, but not limited to, Paradigm’s Epos suite and Jason’s seismic inversion software. He has worked on seismic pore pressure projects as well as on 3-D quantitative seismic interpretation, integrating available rock physics models to 3-D prestack seismic data for the prediction of lithology and pore fluids for siliciclastic and carbonates depositional systems. He has taught several training courses on seismic inversion, seismic imaging, and other topics in his areas of technical expertise. He has extensive experience in geophysical exploration, risk analysis, production and exploitation of hydrocarbons, has proven skills to find, predict, and extract oil and gas from existing fields as well as search for potential new targets, and has been a leader of several technological studies to define new prospects with potential reserves in oil and gas fields. Mr. Mike Curole, an expert chemical engineer with extensive experience in EOR/IOR facilities engineering and surface systems has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) as Principal EOR/IOR Facilities Engineering and Surface Systems Consultant since 2011, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise, that include, but are not limited to, developing highly cost effective surface facility system designs for EOR projects - both offshore and onshore, facilities debottlenecking and operational troubleshooting.

Mr. Curole has over 40 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience, including 33 years with Royal Dutch/ Shell Group. At Shell he was involved in various facilities engineering, engineering management, construction management and technical assignments in worldwide, offshore (deepwater), as well as onshore, projects. Since his retirement from Shell in 2008, he has provided consulting expertise on numerous EOR, and on offshore and onshore, surface facilities projects to Shell and other oil & gas companies.

Mr. Bob Hall

Principal Well Completion and Stimulation/ Fracturing Consultant

Mr. Bob Hall, a well completion and stimulation/ fracturing expert, has worked with Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A) since 2008 as Principal Well Completion and Stimulation/ Fracturing Consultant, and provides consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise.

Mr. Hall has over 40 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience, including seven years with Chevron in developing, designing and supervising stimulation and completion procedures, techniques and manuals; and developing and teaching training courses. He also worked with a number of service companies [Halliburton (for 15 years), Western (for 6 years), and BJ (for 2 years)] in senior staff, supervisory and managerial positions. Now he is involved in developing state-of-the-art chemicals for stimulation and production applications, besides consulting in his areas of technical expertise (fracturing stimulation and completion). Mr. Michael Weathrel, P.E., is the Principal Drilling Engineering Consultant at Avasthi & Associates, Inc. (A&A), and is active in providing consulting and training services in his areas of technical expertise.  

 

Mr. Weatherl has 35 years of worldwide oil & gas industry experience, in drilling engineering technologies and practices, including 21 years with Chevron Corporation, 7 years with Hess Corporation, and 7 years in consulting, working on on-shore and offshore drilling and completion projects. His expertise includes well planning, decommissioning, and providing operational support for major domestic and international drilling projects. He has been coordinator of well support projects for new ventures, and of unconventional shale resources (horizontal drilling) projects.
